FAITH IN ACTION

North Raleigh United Church has an active Faith in Action focus. In addition to providing funds for social ministries, we encourage our members and others to involve their energies in the transformation of our society. A sampling of the agencies we work with are listed below:

Urban Ministries of Wake County

The Urban Ministries of Wake County makes a covenant with the people of Wake County to identify and relieve the effects of poverty in our community by providing an organized structure for the reallocation of area resources.

Our goals are to:

  • provide basic necessities to those in need
  • provide services that promote self-sufficiency
  • build awareness of the issues surrounding poverty within the larger community
  • remain aware of and leverage area resources to maximize our impact within the community
  • provide a challenging, rewarding, and supportive environment for staff and volunteers

The Franklinton Center

From a massive farm property (15 miles north of Rocky Mount, NC) where slaves were once afflicted to an institution of social and educational reform, the story of the Franklinton Center at Bricks continues to evolve from a tradition of progressive and positive social change. In May 1987, the Commission for Racial Justice (CRJ) relocated the Southern Regional office from Raleigh to the Franklinton Center. CRJ is a national body of the United Church of Christ (UCC). The Center is used for a variety of purposes, including being the focal point for UCC aid to the victims of hurricane Floyd.

The work of The Coalition is focused on three primary areas:
